Classification Mapping Tool

What is it?

In the framework of REACH and CLP the hazardous classification of substances could be subject to revision. This might occur following proposals for harmonised classification or as a consequence of new hazardous properties that might emerge, for instance, during the REACH registration process or as outcome of substance evaluations. The impacts for the industry of substance reclassification are not limited to the requirements established by the CLP regulation (i.e. labelling) but might have direct and indirect repercussions through a broad range of legislations all over the entire supply chain. Eurometaux has developed a Classification Mapping Tool, intended to support the identification of links between hazardous classifications, legislative provisions and industry impacts, as well as the evaluation of impacts associated to current, as well as potential future, hazardous (re)classifications.

The tool contains information on approximately 60 EU directives/regulations covering the following areas: general measures, workers, consumers, environment and transport. The tool provides indicative information on references associated to specific hazardous classifications, requirements, impacts on industry, derogations and legislative revisions. It is intended to be used as screening tool only and it is not supposed to replace a more detailed expert assessment of the legislative requirements.
